DAY 1
Segesta & Erice
We will begin our Sicilian holiday with a guided tour of Segesta, one of the most beautiful archaeological parks in Sicily.
Segesta was a city that dates back to the 9th century BC. and in the park we can admire the imposing Great Temple in Doric style of the 5th century BC. famous for its still intact conservation and the spectacular 3rd century BC theater.
We will immerse ourselves in the nature at the Zingaro Nature Park which stretches for 7 kilometers along the coast, from the enchanting village of Scopello in the east to San Vito Lo Capo in the west, with some magnificent paths overlooking the cliffs and the blue sea with pristine beaches.
We will continue towards Trapani, the city of salt pans and with a fascinating baroque historic city center and we will head by cable car to the picturesque medieval city of Erice which is located in a magnificent position at 800 m. above sea level.
Unsurprisingly, due to its strategic position, Erice has been occupied by many civilizations.
From the Greeks and Carthaginians to the Romans and Arabs, and finally to the Normans.
We will enjoy some free time to explore the streets of the city and we will taste the famous sweets on one of the panoramic terraces at sunset.
DAY 2
Salt Pans of Trapani, Mozia & Marsala
Sicily is famous for its mix of artistic and architectural, but also landscape beauties!
Heading south we will cross the Salt Pans of Trapani Nature Reserve. A large part of the Reserve is made up of salt pans in which the extraction of salt is still practiced according to traditional techniques in use for centuries.
The site is characterized by the fact that it is one of the most important coastal wetlands in western Sicily, a resting place for numerous species of migratory birds.
Of great impact on the landscape is the presence of numerous windmills and the mounds of salt seen through the vegetation.
We head towards Marsala, the city of the famous wine, and we will reach the tourist port, where a short boat ride will take us to the island of Mozia, an interesting archaeological site in western Sicily, between Trapani and Marsala.
The site was once an important colony of Carthage: here we will find a small museum and numerous sites to visit.
We will admire the famous statue of the Mariotee of Motia, a marble sculpture dating back to the classical period of ancient Greece.
A walk at sunset will allow us to visit Marsala and taste the fine wine that has made this city famous in the world.
DAY 3
Scala dei Turchi & Agrigento
We will move towards Selinunte, one of the largest archaeological sites in Sicily.
The park is located in the southwest of the island and includes Greek temples, ancient city walls, remains of residential and commercial buildings, rural paths and areas yet to be excavated.
Spectacular is its Acropolis overlooking the fantastic beach and the fishing village of Marinella.
And then the time comes to visit a place of extreme natural beauty, the Scala dei Turchi.
This white cliff is located in the sea, and the rock is composed of soft limestone and dense white marl.
Nature is a great artist: over time, with the help of the ocean and the salty breeze, this material becomes soft and curved, creating terraces and smoothing every corner.
You just have to be careful not to slip, especially on wet rocks. Along the beach near La Scala it is possible to immerse yourself in the crystalline sea, to enjoy a few moments of healthy relax.
Returning to the Greek era of Sicily, we will reach the city of Agrigento to visit its iconic Valley of the Temples.
The guide will allow us to discover and learn about the history of this magnificent archaeological park, which is made up of eight temples (and numerous other ruins), built between 510 and 430 BC.
DAY 4
Palermo & Monreale
We reach Palermo, a city always on the move and worthy of being called the capital thanks to its history since the times of Arab domination.
We will visit Monreale to admire its extraordinary cathedral, which is considered the greatest example of Norman architecture in the world.
A large area of the interior is covered in gleaming golden mosaics, which feature an interesting combination of Norman, Byzantine and Islamic art formed in Sicily's most glorious period.
In the late afternoon, a local expert guide will take us on a walking tour of the historic center of Palermo.
We will visit some of the most iconic monuments of the city, including the Royal Palace where the oldest Parliament in Europe is located, the famous Palatine Chapel, the Martorana Church, Santa Caterina and Casa Professa, the Quattro Canti and Piazza Pretoria.
During the tour, you will have the opportunity to taste the street food specialties of Palermo.
DAY 5
Cefalù
After Palermo we will move towards the fascinating Cefalù.
Our day will begin by visiting the magnificent Norman cathedral, the site of the splendid mosaics and the restored 12th century cloister.
We will continue to stroll through the winding medieval streets of the old town and visit the Arab washhouse.
At the end of the walk, we will stop for lunch near the picturesque port, a meeting place full of bars and restaurants.
Continue to Palermo airport and end of the tour.
See you in Sicily!
